How Accident Victim Assistance collects, uses, and protects information from families who contact us for truck-crash support.
Last updated: August 3, 2026
1. Who we are
Accident Victim Assistance (AVA) is a nonprofit victim-support organization. Our mailing address is 2150 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20037. Our 24/7 helpline numbers are (888) 996-8814 and (202) 440-5214. Our email is help@avahelp.org.
This policy explains how we handle information collected through truck.avahelp.org and the intake forms we operate on avahelp.org.
2. What we collect
When you submit our intake form we collect the information you choose to give us: your name, contact information, the state where the accident happened, a description of your situation, and any additional detail you volunteer. We also receive standard web analytics (page views, general geographic region, device type) via Google Analytics.
We do not collect payment information on this site. We do not sell information. We do not build advertising profiles.
3. How we use it
We use what you give us to respond to your request and coordinate the help you asked for, to refer you (with your permission) to an approved independent attorney, funeral home, mental-health provider, or other resource, to contact you by phone, text, or email about your case, to keep records of grants and services provided so we can report accurately to donors and regulators, and to improve our website and services in aggregate form only.
4. When we share it
We share your information only in these narrow circumstances: with approved independent attorneys and service providers that you have consented to be referred to (you can decline a referral at any time); with operational service providers that help us run the organization (our email delivery provider, our web hosting provider, and our productivity tools) who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations; when required by law under a valid subpoena, court order, or lawful government request; and to protect safety if we believe there is an imminent risk of harm to you or another person.
We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to build marketing profiles.
5. How long we keep it
We retain intake records for as long as we are actively supporting your family plus a reasonable follow-up period for grant reporting and audit obligations, generally seven years. You may request deletion at any time by emailing help@avahelp.org.
6. Your rights
You have the right to ask what information we have about you, to correct it, to request its deletion, and to opt out of any future contact. To exercise any of these rights, email help@avahelp.org from the address you used to contact us, or call (888) 996-8814.
7. Security
We store submissions in secure email and cloud systems protected by access controls and transport encryption. No system is perfectly secure. If we ever learn of a breach that affects your information, we will notify you and applicable authorities as required by law.
8. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If a minor is a victim in a case a family contacts us about, we handle any information about the minor with the same care described above and only for the purpose of providing support.
9. Contact
