Accessibility Statement

How Accident Victim Assistance designs truck.avahelp.org to be usable by families with disabilities, our WCAG target, and how to report a barrier.

Last updated: August 3, 2026

Our commitment

Accident Victim Assistance is committed to making truck.avahelp.org usable for the widest possible audience, including people with visual, motor, hearing, and cognitive disabilities. We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.

We know that families who reach this site are often in crisis. Making the site simple, calm, and easy to navigate is part of the same commitment.

What we do

Every page is built with semantic HTML, keyboard-navigable controls, visible focus indicators, and skip-to-main-content links. We test color contrast to meet WCAG AA (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text). We provide text alternatives for meaningful images, and we mark decorative graphics as hidden from assistive technology. Our bilingual content uses the correct lang attributes so screen readers announce Spanish text with a Spanish voice.

The intake forms on avahelp.org use labeled inputs, clear error messages, and native form controls that work with screen readers, keyboards, and voice-input tools.

What we do not do

We do not use auto-playing audio or video. We do not use CAPTCHAs that require solving visual puzzles. We do not require a mouse to complete any task on the site.

Known limitations

This site is under active development. If you notice a page that is hard to use with a screen reader, hard to navigate with a keyboard, or unreadable due to color contrast, please tell us — we treat accessibility bugs the same as any other production bug and fix them quickly.

Getting help another way

If any part of this site is a barrier, you can reach a person 24 hours a day at (888) 996-8814 or (202) 440-5214. We speak English and Spanish. We can complete an intake with you by phone if that is easier than the online form.

How to report a barrier

Email help@avahelp.org with the page URL, a short description of the issue, and the assistive technology or device you were using. We aim to respond within two business days.
